Shenghua Hu is an internationally acclaimed violinist and the first Chinese musician in history to serve as Principal Second Violin of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He has participated in multiple Grammy-winning recordings with the Met Orchestra and is widely recognized in the international classical music community.
Hu has performed extensively across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, appearing in major concert halls, opera houses, and music festivals worldwide. As a soloist, his performances are celebrated for technical mastery, expressive depth, and artistic sophistication.
He has collaborated with world-renowned conductors, including Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Gustavo Dudamel, and Sir Simon Rattle, across opera, symphonic, and chamber music settings. Hu has also performed alongside top international artists, including Yo-Yo Ma and members of the Berlin Philharmonic, establishing a broad network of high-level collaborations.
A laureate of international competitions, including the Paganini and Sarasate Violin Competitions, Hu received a full scholarship to the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying under Kurt Sassmannshaus, and further honed his artistry with Albert Markov.
Renowned for both orchestral excellence and solo artistry, Hu continues to engage audiences worldwide, bridging classical tradition with contemporary expression while promoting music through concerts, recordings, and educational outreach.
